Every great company has an origin story, and Good Shout is no exception!

Founded in 2022, Good Shout’s CEO Amy Kean wanted to create a training company that helped everyone find their voice, in every possible way.

Meet Amy Kean

When Amy left the ad industry to use her voice full time, she decided to help other people step into their brilliance, regardless of what society says. Her bestselling book, The Little Girl Who Gave Zero Fucks is about what would happen if we all worried less, and has been described as a β€œfeminist handbook” by Glamour magazine.

Amy loves to teach, having run the media strategy course at Bournemouth University, and the history of the creative industries at Kingston. She’s the co-founder of a non-profit diversity organization called DICE (Diversity and Inclusion at Conferences and Events) which helps events organisers curate more inclusive lineups, and she regularly ruffles feathers for her DEI contributions, focused on intersectionality and moving beyond lip service to drive real change.

But the story starts when she first left university and a recruitment consultant described her Essex accent as β€œtoo common” to be around clients.

She had a β€œmore behind the scenes voice”. And the worst thing? She believed that recruitment consultant! For a few years at the start of her career in advertising she didn’t say much, and attempted to blend into the background.

It didn’t work. So then, she got louder

Now, she’s a CEO, bestselling author, journalist, playwright, poet, Campaign Magazine trailblazer, LinkedIn Top Voice and inductee into the BIMA Hall of Fame. Oh, and she’s gone viral a bunch of times, notably about charcoal-activated croissants and The Queen’s Gambit.

The lesson?

Well, first of all, never let a recruitment consultant dictate your self-worth, but secondly any voice can be powerful, regardless of accent, pitch or perspective. Amy’s career has taken her to some of the world’s biggest ad agencies, working in the UK, the US and Asia, and in head of innovation roles she was constantly charged with driving big, impressive change for companies like Nando’s, Jean Paul Gaultier, Sony Music, Coty and Kimberly Clark.

She created Good Shout to make sure everybody loves their voice. That we feel proud of our voices! Our words are powerful, and every accent is beautiful.

Any way you use your voice, Good Shout provides training in it, and Amy’s worked with every kind of audience:

  • She taught 1st year university students the history of creativity during covid

  • She taught primary school children in Cambodia how to write poetry

  • She taught victims of domestic violence how to use their voices with more power

  • She’s worked with struggling companies, boy bands and reality stars to give their messages more meaning

She’s not shy of loudly and creatively sharing her opinions, with recent appearances on Woman’s Hour and Radio Five Live. Her sold out 2023 London play GROUP was about the dark side of life coaching.

β€œAs a weirdo woman from a working class background, I’ve experienced the struggles of being yourself first hand. My entire career has been a relentless fight against boring professional norms; constantly kicking down doors and using my voice to advocate for others.”

If you want testimonials and reviews of Amy’s work, she has hundreds.

Expect to see stuff like:
