Women are amazing. They're powerful, bright, phenomenally resilient; they've been responsible for some of the most meaningful change in history and when a woman's in your corner it's the best feeling in the world.
But we need to have some difficult conversations about how women treat women, sometimes. And whether, in the grand scheme of a claustrophobic patriarchal society, we actually make things harder for ourselves.
While #womensupportingwomen has become a tired and overused cliche, what does it actually make to spport each other? What does healthy competition look like, and where should we draw the line? In the pursuit of equality, does every woman feel heard, and seen? And most importantly, how often do women punch down, or across, seeing each other as collateral damage in the quest for social survival?
Can we imagine a utopia in which all women are united, and on the same progressive page? Probably not. But we can unlearn our biases and hold each accountable.
This event isn't a rant, it's an exploration, focused on how the patriarchy tries to turns us againast each other, and what happens when it works. In one big afternoon, we'll cover:
Relational aggression and how girls are taught to judge oher girls
How social media has changed how women see and treat each other, including MLMs, scamming and theft
The harm that white feminism does to Black and Brown women
The corporate world and impact of bullying
The history of witch-hunts and female persecution, and the role women played
Intergenerational issues and how we address them
It's not women's job to fix everything (although we're doing a lot of it) but we can can - and should - say the uncomfortable things out loud.
